Michaela Thelenová
From the Window I Observe the Silent Flow of the River

Opening at the Město Gallery

Nádražní 594
430 01 Chomutov

Opening of Michaela Thelenová’s exhibition From the Train Window I Observe the Silent Flow of the River at the Město Gallery / entrance hall of the Chomutov město train station

The artist has created photographic images of intangible landscapes for the Město Gallery, accompanied by personal sentences recalling intimately familiar situations. Waiting, standing and aimlessly walking in the station halls triggers the plots of real stories in our imagination. Chomutov město Railway Station becomes both a starting point and, at the same time, a link to the printed postcards, secondary matrices for shared stories, which are available to the public for free at several stations. https://gmesto.eu/

Stopa Art Workshop

Studio Bubec - Tělovýchovná 748
155 00 Řeporyje

Drawing and writing with coloured chalks for 3-year-olds to adults .

Every day we become part of public space without being aware of our involvement in its operation. We float through these places with a head full of our own ideas. How many beings pass over a railway crossing in this way for example, or are part of public space only through waiting for a delayed train or just walking on the platform? Be part of the STOPA experimental workshop where we will seek answers to these questions and share our experiences, impressions and insights in a creative way.

Let’s inspire each other, read and observe phenomena and explore the traces left by previous inhabitants/travellers/visitors…

Lecture by Jiří Krejčík
If only God had Preserved the Station Buffet for You

Lecture for children and adults

Social Hall
Masaryk Railway Station
Havlíčkova 1014/2

Railway station restaurants, pubs and buffets are a specific subspecies of Czech catering establishments whose spirit is shaped, among other things, by the unpredictable fluctuation of guests. A morning gathering for a school trip and a group of wheeltappers enjoying a hot dog, a respectable family having lunch at the same table as professional down-and-outs, all this can happen in a railway station restaurant. Unlike restaurants and taprooms in urban areas, the traditional railway station is a highly democratic space, where no regard is paid to nationality, age, education or pay slip – when we miss the train, we all meet there. The authors of the blog vagus.cz will present, based on years of reviewing, the current situation facing Czech railway station restaurants in terms of expensive beer, the greedy claws of developers and people with no feeling for smoke-soaked romance.

Walk through the Slatiny colony

The Disappearing Garden Colonies

Meeting point at the statue of Petr Stibral in the Jiřina Hauková and Jindřich Chalupecký Park in front of Vršovice railway station

Garden colonies have existed in Prague since the end of the 19th century and still represent a large part of the greenery of the city. Yet, they have been disappearing in recent decades. The debate will be attended by Petr Gibas from the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, representatives of the Institute of Planning and Development of the City of Prague and others.

The accompanying programme to the installation by Petr Stibral includes a podcast composed from recordings of hustle and bustle and interviews with residents of the Slatiny emergency colony, compiled by Miloš Vojtěchovský:

A series of documentary photographs from Slatiny by photographer Petr Zewlakk Vrabec can be viewed on the festival website.

Sonic Reminiscence for the Former Denis Railway Station. The building of the now vanished Prague-Těšnov railway station was one of the three central railway junctions in Prague. It was in operation continuously from 1875 until 1972. Architectural historians consider it one of the most valuable station buildings in Central Europe. On 16 March 1985, the dilapidated structure was demolished due to its seriously damaged state and the adjacent arterial road. A series of acoustic interventions on the site of the historic building is a reminder of the disappearing world of railway terrains and of the culture of the railway phenomenon in general in the contemporary world.

The programme was prepared by the collective of authors of the portal https://sonicity.cz/

Second Part: Meeting at Masaryk railway station in Prague at the departure boards at 5:25 p.m. – viewing of the Locomotive installation by Lloyd Dunn, then we will take the train via Veleslavín station to see Vladimír Turner’s installation called Sustainable Mobility. We will take the train to Kladno to see Matěj Al-Ali’s installation What Was, What Will Be. We will have refreshments at Kladno railway station restaurant and take the train back to Prague.

Due to the extensiveness of the routes and places, we recommend a personal visit to Eliáš Dolejší’s installation entitled Pale Blue Covering at Prague-Reporyje railway station, combined with a visit to Studio Bubec and Bubec Garden. Similarly, we recommend that you combine a personal visit to Pavel Hošek’s Frame visualisation with a visit to Prague Modřany station and on the way see Michaela Thelenová’s postcards, which are available at the above-mentioned train stations. The audio tour of the artist Peter Cusack in the vicinity of Braník station can be accessed on the Festival m3 website, but we recommend a personal visit. It is a remarkable place. Screening of Vladimír Turner's film

Modern Times

Moving Station
Koperníkova 56
301 00 Plzeň 3 - Jižní Předměstí

Modern Times: An update of Chaplin’s Modern Times highlights the absurd dimension of technological progress,  thanks to which humanity is not evolving, but rather becoming stunted. This fact is illustrated by hoverboards, which relieve us of the need to walk, and we partly become machines because of the prosthetic chassis. An identical interpretive key to the seriality and monotony of the modern world is offered by aerial views of a housing estate of identical turnkey houses. Machine-structured reality makes slaves of us all. “Modern times have changed significantly since the time of Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin, with his sensitivity to the world, would probably be dependent on Xanax today.” (V.T.)
